How to deal with obstacles during meditation?
Question: How to deal with the disturbing emotions like itching and pain during meditation? In meditation, mostly physical pain hinders. Can you tell me how to meditate when I feel pain?
Osho:- This is what I was talking about. If you feel pain, be aware of it, do nothing. Meditation is a very big sword. You just focus on the pain.
For example, you are sitting quietly in the last stage of meditation, without moving, and you will feel many discomforts in the body. You will feel that your legs are dying, your head is also itching, you will feel that ants are crawling on your body and you have seen many times – there are no ants there. The crawling is felt inside, not outside. What would you do? You feel your legs are going to die – meditate on this, just give it your complete attention. Feel itchy – don't scratch, as that won't help. Just pay attention. Don't even open your eyes. Just pay attention from within and just wait and see, and within a few moments the itch will disappear. Whatever it may be – even if you feel pain, severe pain in the stomach or in the head. This is possible because meditation brings about changes in the entire body. Meditation brings chemical changes in the body. New things start happening; There is a disorder in the body. Many times the stomach gets affected because you have suppressed many emotions in the stomach, and there is turmoil in them. Many times you will feel like vomiting, you will feel nauseous. Sometimes you will feel severe headaches because meditation is changing the internal structure of your brain. In meditation you really go through a chaos. Things will settle down soon. But, for some time, everything will be in disarray.
So what do you have to do? Simply look at the headache; Keep watching this. Remain an observer. Forget that you are the doer, and gradually everything will become quiet and so beautifully and so gently that you would not believe had not
experienced And not only that the headache would disappear: if the energy that caused the pain was simply seen, the pain would disappear and that same energy would become joy. The energy is the same. Pain and pleasure are two dimensions of the same energy. If you sit quietly and pay attention to the interruptions, all interruptions will disappear. And when all the disturbances disappear, you will suddenly become aware that the whole body has disappeared.
Really, what was happening? Why were these things happening? And when you do not meditate they are not there. You are there all day and your hands never itch, you never have a headache, your stomach is perfect and your legs are perfect. All things are correct. What is really going on? Why do these things suddenly start happening during meditation? The body has been in dominance for a long time, and in meditation you are throwing the body out of its dominance. You are dethroning it. It sticks; It tries to dominate in every possible way. It will create so many things to distract you that the focus will be lost; You lose control and the body takes over. Until now, the body has been dominant and you have been the slave Through meditation, you are changing all things; is
a great revolution And, in fact, no emperor wants to give up power. The body political moves – that's why this is happening. When it creates imaginary pain, itching, ants are moving, the body tries to disorient you. And this is natural, because the body has been the ruler for a long time, for many lives it has been the emperor and you are the slave. Now you are changing everything completely. You are trying to regain your power, and it is natural that the body will do whatever it can to distract you. If you get distracted, you will be lost. Normally, people suppress these things. They will start chanting the mantra; They will not see the body.
I am not teaching you any kind of oppression. I only teach consciousness. Just look, pay attention, and because it is imaginary, it will disappear immediately. When all the pain and itching and ants will disappear and the body a slave , suddenly there will be so much pleasure that you cannot cherish it. Suddenly so much celebration arises that you cannot express; There radiates from within you a peace that is beyond understanding, a joy that is not of this world.
